On the feast of the Holy Trinity, which refers to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit being three persons in one, the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee reminded people to be joyous and loving.

“Today we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity!” the diocese posted on Facebook

It followed that message with a 2018 quote from Pope Francis about the day. “The Feast of the Most Holy Trinity leads us to contemplate the mystery of God who unceasingly creates, redeems and sanctifies, always with love and through love,” the pope said four years ago.

Pope Francis this year followed up on that with a couple of tweets to guide people through the mystery of the Trinity.

”The #MostHolyTrinity teaches us that a person can never be without the other," the pope said in a tweet. "We are not islands, we are in the world to live in God’s image: open, in need of others and in need of helping others.”

Another said, "If we can truly invoke God, calling him ‘Abba — Dad,’ it is because the Holy Spirit dwells in us; he is the One who transforms us deep within and makes us experience the soul-stirring joy of being loved by God as his true children.”

The Holy Trinity is a core part of the Catholic faith, which teaches that there is one God, but three divine persons. The three personages are God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, according to Catholic Culture. God the Son, or Jesus, was begotten from the Father, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son.

Catholics celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity, an event that Britannica says dates to the 10th century, on the Sunday after Pentecost Sunday.
