Curtis Martin, founder and CEO of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS), a Catholic outreach organization for college students, invited Catholics to attend this year's Florida Eucharistic Congress, which will take place June 17-18.
Congress speakers, in addition to Curtis Martin, will include Archbishop Nelson Perez of Philadelphia; Joe Melendrez, a musician and youth speaker; and Marilyn Santos, associate director of the secretariat of evangelization and catechesis at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Diocese of St. Augustine said in a release.
"This is a great time to be gathering together around the Eucharist," Martin said in a Facebook post by the diocese. "There's never been a time when we've needed our Lord more than we do right now. The Eucharistic Congress is a perfect place to have our faith enkindled, to be encouraged and to recognize its centrality."
The Florida Eucharistic Congress will kick off June 17 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville, followed by a full day of events June 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville, the diocese said on its site.
"I'm looking forward to celebrating the beauty of the Eucharist at the upcoming Florida Eucharistic Congress in June," Perez said in a YouTube video. "Through the Eucharist, we encounter Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior. The Eucharist offers us his healing and peace, his mercy and reconciliation. It nourishes us spiritually and is a tangible reminder that he is always present in our lives."
