The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee celebrated the feast day of two of Jesus' apostles, St. Philip and St. James the Less, this week.

The diocese made a Facebook post with a description of the two apostles.

"Today we celebrate Sts. Philip and James," the diocese said in a Facebook post. "Philip was born in Bethsaida in Galilee and was one of the 12 Apostles that Jesus called. Immediately, Philip began to share the news of Christ, telling his friend Nathaniel that Jesus was the one whom Moses and the other prophets had foretold."

Little is known about St. James, Franciscan Media reported. St. James the Less, sometimes referred to as St. James the Lesser, is not to be confused with St. James the Greater, who was also an apostle and became the first bishop of Jerusalem. Sts. James and Philip are both Uruguay's patron saints.

"St. James the Less is called 'Less' because he was younger than the other Apostle by the same name, St. James the Great, son of Zebedee," the diocese said. "James the Less, the son of Alphaeus of Cleophas, is the author of the first Catholic Epistle. He held a distinguished position in the early Christian community of Jerusalem. St. Paul tells us he was a witness of the Resurrection of Christ and also a 'pillar' of the Church. Sts. Philip and James, please pray for us!"

James' nickname may also imply that he was a short man, Loyola Press reported. Both men were faithful disciples of Jesus during the early years of the church.

Although Sts. Philip and James died at different times in different places, it is believed that their feast days are celebrated on the same day because their relics were brought to Rome at the same time, EWTN reported. In May 560, their relics were placed in a basilica near central Rome, which has since been rededicated to Jesus' Twelve Apostles.
