On Sunday, the Diocese of Orlando celebrated the beginning of the Easter season — which lasts until Pentecost — by asking people to trust in the Lord's plan.

“Throughout this liturgical season, spend more time with the Risen Lord," the diocese posted on Facebook Monday. "Make it your mission to hold on to the Easter Sunday joy. Good and amazing things are on the horizon. Trust in the Lord's plan for you!"

The Easter season is the most important season of the liturgical calendar. It runs 50 days, from Easter Sunday until Pentecost; a report on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops website (USCCB) said.

Easter, the word, is derived from Old English and means "East," the USCCB report said. It is used to describe the season because as the sun rises in the east and lights the world with warmth and hope, the risen Christ is the Light of the world.

Pentecost comes 50 days after Jesus' resurrection and approximately 10 days after his ascension into heaven.

On that day, Jesus' followers were gathered inside a room, a report on Christianity.com said. While there, they heard a sudden sound, as if the blowing of a great wind had rushed into the room, and tongues of fire appeared over the heads of Jesus' followers. The Holy Spirit filled them, and they began speaking in other tongues. As a crowd gathered around them, everyone in the crowd could hear Jesus' followers speaking in that person's native language. Peter's message to the crowd about Jesus converted 3,000 people to Christianity that day.

This year, the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated on May 29, the USCCB said. The Gospel passage Luke 24:46-53 tells of Jesus leading his disciples out of Jerusalem. He blessed them, and then "he parted from them and was taken up to heaven." His disciples returned into the city and spent their time in the temple praising God.
