The Diocese of St. Augustine invites the faithful to a Shroud Encounter on April 2, at which time a Shroud of Turin scholar will present an analysis on the history and science of the Shroud.

“Can science and faith ever meet? Find out at the Shroud Encounter on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Jacksonville,” the diocese posted on Facebook on Thursday. The seminar, sponsored by the Order of Malta, requires a $10 fee to attend.

“This event is an in-depth analysis of the history and the current science of the Shroud of Turin, believed to be the burial cloth of Christ,” the posting continued. “World-renowned expert Russ Breault leads a “CSI” style investigation of the evidence—the testimony—of the Shroud.”

It will offer a “many-times larger-than-life image of the Shroud” that the public is welcome to inspect.

The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth bearing the image of a man, which many Christians believe to be Jesus Christ, according to History.com. The shroud was discovered in the 1350s, when a French knight gave it to Church authorities, claiming it was Jesus' burial cloth. Pope Francis describes the cloth as an “icon."

The shroud is around 14 feet long and 3.5 feet wide. The man depicted on the shroud has wounds consistent with how Jesus' wounds were described in all four Gospels, according to christianity.com.
