The Diocese of St. Augustine will host a presentation given by Shroud of Turin scholar Russ Breault in early April.
"Join international expert Russ Breault as he leads you through a detailed exploration of the history, science and mystery of the Shroud of Turin," a diocese post on Facebook said this week.
The Order of Malta is sponsoring the event.
The seminar starts at noon on April 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville, the post said. The cost to attend is $10.
The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth bearing the image of a man that many Christians believe to be Jesus Christ, a history.com report said. The shroud was discovered in the 1350s, when a French knight gave it to Church authorities, claiming it to be Jesus' burial cloth.
Pope Francis describes the cloth as an "icon."
The shroud is approximately14.5 feet long and 3.5 feet wide, a report on Christianity.com said. It contains a faint image of a man. The man depicted on the shroud has wounds consistent with those that the four Gospels described Jesus suffered. Many Christians believe the shroud is the actual garment that was wrapped around Jesus for his burial.
