Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops
The Diocese of Palm Beach is extending an invitation to residents to join the Feb. 1, 2022, Catholic Days at the Capitol event.
“Join fellow Catholics from around the state as they gather in Tallahassee to participate in Catholic Days at the Capitol,” the diocese posted on Facebook. “Participants attend a legislative briefing on issues prior to scheduled meetings with their elected officials.”
Catholic Days is hosted by the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops (FCCB), which is a nonpartisan group of bishops that serves as a liaison on public policy between the Church and the state government.
Back in February, residents from across the state connected online to take part in a virtual Catholic Days at the Capitol where FCCB executive director Michael Sheedy called the proceedings that included a briefing on key legislative proposals and an interactive Q and A to order.
Matters that were raised for discussion included prohibiting abortion after 20 weeks gestation (Senate Bill 744), repeal of the death penalty (Senate Bill 568) and “expanded access to state scholarship programs for students currently in private schools and increased parental empowerment by converting state scholarship programs to educational savings accounts” (Senate Bill 48).
“As Catholic Days at the Capitol participants meet with legislators, you can add your voice by sending an email to your elected officials,” FCCB officials posted to the group’s website. “By asking your state lawmakers to support our Catholic Days priority issues, you amplify the efforts of Catholic Days participants and help advance legislation that promotes human life and dignity.”
