Nov. 22 was the Feast of the King, which celebrates the end of the liturgical year, Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville said recently.
With the ending of the liturgical year comes the beginning of the next year. The First Sunday of Advent, which this year is on Nov. 29, will be the start of the new liturgical year.
"The first Sunday of Advent is a spiritual journey in the great companionship of the Catholic Church," the church's Nov. 22 bulletin said. "We call this journey 'Advent,' which means 'The Coming [to us].' The One coming to us is Christ Jesus."
The church noted the importance of knowing this tradition and heritage of Advent, while also taking advantage of all the season offers through spiritual messages and lessons.
"We will make this Advent journey together, and we pray that the challenges and joys of this time will deepen our longing for the coming of Christ into our hearts and families and world," the church said in the bulletin.
