The Very Rev. Ed Waters of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Lady Lake recently mused that it's strange how a different perspective changes things.
"Isn’t it strange how a $20 bill seems like such a larger amount when you donate it to church but such a small amount when you are shopping?" he said in the church's Nov. 15 bulletin. "Isn’t it strange how two hours seem so long when you are at church and how short they seem when you are watching a good movie?"
Waters noted that it's strange that people cannot find the right words to say when they are praying, but they can easily talk to friends. And he noticed it's strange that people struggle to read the Bible but have no trouble reading a popular novel.
"Isn’t it strange how everyone wants front-row tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in Church?" he said. "Isn’t it strange how we need to know about an event for Church two to three weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events the last minute?"
The pastor wondered how people question the Bible but don't question what they read in magazines.
"Isn’t it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they do not want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?" Fr. Waters said. "Isn’t it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away, but when we are going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with others?"
