The idea of shuttering the economy due to Covid is deeply unpopular with Florida’s Catholic population.

Of those polled by Florida Catholic Tribune, 89.3%, or 509 respondents, disagree with any future economic lockdowns.

Florida Catholic Tribune asked poll respondents, “Would you support another economic lockdown?”

The poll ran Oct. 15-21 on Facebook and was targeted to Catholics living in Florida, resulting in 570 responses.

Gov. Ron DeSantis told Floridians back in August, “We will never do any of these lockdowns again.”

Florida was one of the first states to reopen. The state recently saw declines in its rate of unemployment claims.

Leading public health experts from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford have advocated against future lockdowns

In the face of much lower fatality rates and the long-term economic damage to the economy, some argue lockdowns could have a more devastating impact on the long-term health of those in isolation.

The World Health Organization has also called lockdowns “harmful,” with such a pronounced economic impact on communities that public health outcomes may be affected for a generation.

See the chart below with recorded responses to poll questions.
