Through Catholic Charities agencies, parishioners of Saint Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie have the opportunity to make a financial donation to help provide relief for those stricken by hurricanes and wildfires.
In the Oct. 4, bulletin, Bishop Gerald Barbarito highlighted difficulties the Church is having in its public response to the current natural disasters, pointing out that there are limitations with special collections with the exception of those who have individual envelopes. The collections restrict the public response of the Church.
Instead, he suggested making donations on the Catholic Charities USA website. When making a donation, it is important to designate specifically what disaster aid is being provided for.
“Catholic Charities agencies are on the front lines, responding to the needs of survivors by providing life-sustaining support; including distribution of emergency food, water, shelter, financial assistance,” Barbarito said in the bulletin. “Engaged in communities, Catholic Charities USA continues to help people through the long process of recovery and restoration— providing a national reach with a local presence and delivering assistance in a compassionate manner.”
