A recent reflection in the bulletin for Saint Rita Catholic Church in Santa Rosa Beach asked parishioners, “Thirsty again?” as they're encouraged to consider what they thirst for— what they pursue— in their daily lives.

The things people thirst for are those things they spend their time and energy on most, the reflection noted.

“Perhaps it is success at work, the success of your kids, your favorite sport, entertainment, being liked, financial security,” the reflection said.

Parishioners are then asked to consider the words of Jesus in addressing the woman at the well in John Chapter 4.

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life,” the reflection quoted the Lord.

And so it is with all things pursued in place of Jesus, as they never satisfy.
