St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kissimmee recently asked their parishioners to renew or join their "Stewardship way of life."
This year's stewardship focus is "formation," with the motto: "A long journey in search of wisdom, understanding and conversion of the heart," the Rev. José Bautista, parish pastor, said in a letter on the church's website. It is a way to practice the Catholic faith while being attentive to knowledge.
"We will turn to the many and varied sources of our faith perhaps to realize about the great treasure of wisdom in which we stand and journey toward God and to incorporate that wisdom more intrinsically in our daily life choices and activities," Bautista said in the letter.
For three weeks, the church will be taking stewardship commitments from parishioners, Bautista noted. This year the parish is taking those commitments online through a simple form that's on the church website. A copy of the commitment will be sent to those who fill out the form so that they can keep track of it.
"By putting it in writing, we become accountable to ourselves and to God of our growth as disciples of Christ; making a commitment to God in the parish is also a way to celebrate our faith and our desire to continue to grow as believers," he said.
Fr. Bautista concluded by reminding parishioners of a parable in the Gospel that teaches it's our actions, not what we say we're going to do, that matters most. That is also why he's asked people to do their best to stick to the stewardship commitment they make.
"It would be better that what we say is reflected in our actions, and that is why the commitment will help us not only say that we are Catholic, and love the Lord, but also to actually live as such," he said.
