Dr. Scott Zeman, the former dean of Biscayne College at St. Thomas University, passed away from a fatal accident recently.
Zeman served as dean from July 2011 to June 2014, a release issued on the university's website said.
"Scott made an immediate impact on STU, and was awarded 'Administrator of the Year' in 2012," the university said in the release. "Through his leadership, Biscayne College launched several first-year learning communities, expanded the Institute for World Languages and Culture, and grew the Center for Community Engagement. Dr. Zeman’s vision elevated our entire university, particularly through his efforts to create and implement the Quality Enhancement Plan, designed to improve student writing across curriculums."
He passed away after a fatal accident while jogging on Sept. 1. The accident took place in Scottsdale, Arizona; where Zeman was visiting his mother.
"Prior to serving at St. Thomas University, Dr. Zeman taught at New Mexico Tech, where he received the 'Favorite Professor' award in 2000 and 2001, and eventually became an associate vice president of Academic Affairs," the university said. "Dr. Zeman served as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Salve Regina University after leaving STU. Scott returned to the classroom at New Mexico Tech in 2019."
