It does not matter if you have been laid off or fired or if you have resigned for any reason— unemployment is rarely fun.
Despite that down-in-the-dumps feeling, it is important to work hard while you search for a new job that makes you happy. That applies to work in general and especially to work within ministry and evangelization.
St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa shared that message from Deacon Greg Lambert in the church's Sept. 20 newsletter.
Lambert’s message included a reference to Matthew 20:6-7, in which tenant farmers stand in a field waiting for work. A landowner finds them; and when they tell him what they are doing, he tells them to go into his vineyard.
It is an example of what a person in present times may encounter while they are between jobs. Until they can find another full-time position, they can try to make ends meet through individual-hire jobs such as ride-sharing, food delivery or day labor.
Finding a part-time job or a temporary job through an agency are options too.
No matter what type of gig a person finds during a gap in full-time employment, it is important to stay motivated. The worst thing a person can do is slip into a rut of laziness.
But once a person finds a new full-time job, it is important not to let any of the laziness that may have crept into their life between jobs carry over. The well-being of a company depends on employees working hard to achieve goals.
In his message, Lambert noted that it is also important to pray for the grace to recognize God’s will in these situations and for the patience to wait on Him for full-time employment at the best time and place.
