Our Lady of Lourdes in Daytona recently shared an important message on support for the unborn and other social responsibilities.
“This week Bishop Noonan wrote to his priests reminding us that the Catholic Church is seen as pro-life; however, the subtlety of Catholic social teaching goes beyond the formation of a child in the womb,” the message in the Sept. 6 bulletin said. It is imperative that in order to support the unborn, we start by supporting their mothers and fathers, guaranteeing that they have the care and love needed to face the situation with confidence.
The message also noted that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Diocese of Orlando are working on a Year of Service program for mothers who are in need. It will begin on Oct. 1 and continue until Sept. 30, 2021.
Additionally, parishioners were reminded that as Catholics they do not belong to one political party, but must make decisions through the lens of the Catholic Social Teaching, which does not fit into either liberal or conservative values.
Parishioners were encouraged to continue to social distance and care for those who are more susceptible to the COVID-19 virus by wearing masks and making other charitable acts of compassion.
