David A. Armstrong, St. Thomas University (STU) president, is celebrating his second anniversary at the school and the promising future ahead for the institution, a release issued on the school website said.

Armstrong has played an integral role in breathing new life into the campus since he came into his position in August 2018.

The financial condition of the Miami school has gone from having a deficit of $4.6 million to a surplus of $74,000.

The undergraduate enrollment rate has increased more than 44% over the past two years, while many other faith-based small private colleges have been faced with challenges.

The law school has also experienced an increase in enrollment rate, which is now up 36% since August 2018.

A number of facilities throughout the campus have been renovated, and there are now plans for even more facilities.

A new Faculty Handbook has been designed and is focused on the topic of excellence in the school’s classrooms.

The university has also been able to grow its recognition throughout South Florida thanks to the investments made in the area of marketing.

Armstrong acknowledged those who have helped him turn the school around.

“The credit for the successes we’ve achieved goes to our trustees, faculty and staff,” Armstrong said in the release. “Any success our institution has had these last two years is because of their dedication to the mission and implementation of our vision.”

While the pandemic is impacting may schools negatively, Armstrong has thought ahead and is putting Bobcat Go! in place, which will provide students with the ability to pursue their education in whatever way they feel is safest for them: online, on campus with proper safety procedures, or a hybrid of the two.

“The pandemic forced this pivot, but there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be offering classes this way after the pandemic has subsided," Armstrong said. "I believe this is the future of higher education, and STU is leading the way.”
