The July 26 weekly bulletin from Emmanuel Catholic Church in Delray Beach included a prayer for protection from storms in the announcements section as Tropical Storm Isaias was threatening to make landfall on the state's eastern coast.
The prayer opens with a request for care and protection from God, the Father, Creator and Lord of the universe.
“We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons,” the prayer states. “Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in your love and mercy.”
The prayer acknowledges the power that the Lord has over the sea, the wind, the rain and the fact that only God can bring peace, calm and safety. It concludes with a recognition of God’s goodness and his protection over those He loves.
“Father, we thank you in advance, for you arc our only refuge,” the prayer reads. “We ask this through Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.”
