The Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange shared a reflection about the treasures of the kingdom in its July 26 weekly church bulletin.
The piece asked parishioners what our life in Christ is worth.
“Do you love His words more than gold and silver, as we sing in today’s Psalm?” the reflection asked. “Would you, like the characters in the Gospel today, sell all that you have in order to possess the kingdom He promises to us? If God were to grant any wish, would you follow Solomon’s example in today’s first reading —asking not for a long life or riches, but for wisdom to know God’s ways and to desire His will?”
In order to discover the Kingdom of God, it is necessary that we consider everything else in our lives to be worthless and be willing to sacrifice it all in order to gain Christ. In order to follow and love God fully, the reflection said, we must give up all of the false idols of this world so that we can truly be dedicated to the person of Christ and be considered a pleasing sacrifice to him.
