Announcements

Cross

Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola issued the following announcement on July 12

On July 31, the Catholic Church observes the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits. He is also the patron saint of the Diocese of Palm Beach. He is also known for creating the “Spiritual Exercises” often used today for retreats and individual discernment. Ignatius of Loyola was a former soldier from Spain. He founded the Jesuits in 1540 as an effort to counter the effects of the Protestant Reformation by the promotion and defense of the teachings and authority of the Church across Europe. St. Ignatius died peacefully on July 31, 1556. He was canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. Below is a prayer attributed to him.

Prayer for a Generous Faith

Lord, teach me to be generous, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to look for any reward, save that of knowing that I do your holy will. Amen.
