The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Key West
The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Key West is offering a series of Zoom meetings for parishioners who are concerned about racial equality.
Two different small-group, eight-week sessions will begin this month. One group will meet on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the other group will meet on Friday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The classes will explore economic systems, public policies, cultural norms and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. Weekly modules are designed to help participants understand how power and privilege influence racial disparities.
The Catholic faith will be the basis for a Christ-centered response to moving forward in a racially disparate society. The sessions will also address action steps for working toward racial equity in our communities.
